I have a 2005 e60 525i with 172,100 miles on the clock. I wish it did not have a sunroof, because blowing those drain plugs out is a pain. The rear door handles to exit the vehicle have just decided to stop working.

Well THAT would be a news flash to me (and I suspect every other N52 owner). ;-) Why would you build an engine with a timing chain if you had to replace it as often as a timing belt? Kind of the worst of both worlds... ;-)

well chain is not a problem but those plastic guides or whatever that they have that tension the belt to optimal working condition had audi a4 and tooth slipped do to one of those tensioners start to get loose.

Never saw any indication that there was a service interval on those plastic guides. Yep, I've read where they've failed, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

Could you post anything showing that those guides have a 100,000 mile service interval? If so, I can only breathe a huge sigh of relief having sold my 175,000 mile N52 (E61) last weekend... ;-)

Our '08 535xi (N54) is just shy of 260,000 miles now. The '06 530xiT (N52) isn't quite to 200,000 tho.

I had a Lincoln LS with some sort of Jaguar derived engine. They had problems with chain tensioners and cam phasers. Haven't heard of timing chain/tensioner or chain guide issues in Bimmerworld.

I recently purchased a 2006 525d 2.5 E60 manual, on approximately 153k full service history, done about 2k since now on 155k miles. I’m the 6th owner, it’s had clutch/DMF + exhaust manifold and other bits and pieces done. About to do the vortex breather today and will be checking for swirl flaps too already bought the blanking kit
