Jerkiness how? Like an obvious wheel jerking or an engine feeling jerky/bogged down? If wheels, start checking bushings. If engine, start doing a tune-up; plugs, coils, vanos, etc. You can also try "stomping" on your pedal to force a code to happen, you'll likely find a misfire or two.
At 181k, there's still really no other wagon that I like (and can afford) and it still holds up fine compared to newer vehicles (Thanks, Bangle!). Sedans don't appeal to me anymore now that I've gotten used to the liftgate and as cool as Tesla's are, I'm not gonna pay $27k for a '12 Model S when Tesla was loaded with issues.

157,000 miles and still going strong! Only major problem I had was the starter went bad not to long ago. Other than that the car has been excellent and still pulls hard for what it is.

My last visit here was in 2015! Couldn't help but post to this thread.
158k miles. A few major things done outside of normal maint (not to mention the money spent overall) - steering column (warranty), transmission (BMW gratis even though out of warranty), engine carbon build up clean. Currently needing a lower gasket replacement due to leak.
Still brings a smile on my face.

Engine carbon buildup on NA engine at 158K miles! First time I have seen that! What type of driving do you do. You need to do more "Italian tune-ups" and use some techtron every once and a while to prevent that. On direct injection engines I understand, but the N62?!

I recently picked up a 2008 528xi. Previous owner took great care of it. Currently sitting at 153,325 miles and going strong. I did have all fluids flushed and had slight oil leak from valve cover gasket. Due to the age, I decided to replace with new valve cover, gasket, and needed a new eccentric sensor. Other than that, the car is immaculate. Struts are leaking a little bit, but planning to install coilovers soon.

This is quick fix. Buy the ZF Pan/filter, 15 quarts (6-Quarts per flush) of the specified ZF-Transmission Fluid for your transmission. It will then run like new.
Procedure: You will drain, replace pan and fill fluid and shift to blend fluid. Then Drain again and fill again. Follow the ZF instructions and check fluid level while fluid is between 35 C & 45 C. Read the bottle and you will need to shake the quart bottles well. Sounds ridiculous, but never second guess the Germans.
If you have an X-Drive buy the BMW Transfer Case fluid and have that changed (also shake well). The independent shop will charge $225.00 and have it all finished in 60 minutes. It is worth the money unless you enjoy dropping the exhaust system & Transfer mounting brackets. The transmission flush would run you $850.00 for a single flush.
Remember; there is no such thing in the world as "lifetime fluid". It is simply the laws of chemistry and physics that are real.
