I have a new noise. I have changed the lower control arms as one ball joint was bad. I believe in all BMW's 3's and 5's the Bushing Set for Control Arms (Tension Struts) Front , the bushing goes. That I found by a clumk going over speed bumps. Mine were replaced at 120k. The noise is a clank when turning sharp. I have pulled and proded every bolt I can around the suspension. That is how I found the bad ball joint. It is less often but still a clumk. I also just had the wheel alignment down. They found nothing. It sounds more in the center of the car. By the way I was able with four up to hold my son in his new 420hp mustang to about 120mph -then we stoped. Stick 545i at 147k.

I have the same thing at 110k.... A click in the middle of the car when turning sharply.... I can only hear it going up my parking garage ramp...

Thought it was a CV joint, then realized real wheel drives don't have em!

Yes we do have four but this is from the front as I go up my pavement/driveway ramp. I also have a 1983 Porsche whith four cvs and I know what that sounds like when it goes out, clicking and poping. No ca-lunk. Just like that. Also when backing up and I turn sharply right. Right at the end of travel I get a ca-lunk! I wondererd if it could be the self leveling suspension as it has a unit in the middle of the car on the front cross member. I might take it to BMW to check out. Has anyone had anything go wrong on the self leveling system and can you test it by yourself in anyway? My bentley book says not. It needs the BMW computer to make the car dance. I thought that just maybe bleeding the system might help?

My babys got 108K miles on her.
Ive dealt with serious steerinc column, and many/multiple oil pan, pipe, gasket issues.

Heres hoping she is good to go!

215,000 miles. 05 530i 6speed.
Pretty original. Original clutch.
Only a few brake jobs, a radiator (150k), and injectors (107k).

I drove my mb 190D to 400+kmi, with the 2nd clutch going 250+. So, i kinda expect longevity.

I'm at 110,000 kilometers and biggest problems have been an oil leak and TCU control unit error...

Still loving the way it drives and just invested in some ISC coil overs since generally around the 100,000 mark struts and shocks tend to go

Hi Folks,

I have had 3 e60s and all have had just over 100,000 miles on the clock when i bought them. first one 530d manual gearbox, wrote it off at 257,000 miles, 2nd one 535d wrote it off at 267,000. My current one 535d has 228,000 miles (not long to go then until i write it off lol)

These cars last until really high mileages. I reckon a well serviced engine could easily reach 350,000 miles. If you know the cars and you buy one at say 116,000 miles you can pick up a bargain.

As for things going wrong, i just posted yesterday. Changed the torque convertor and fan recently in mine. My previous models never really had anything major go wrong.

cheers
