I wish I had such a positive tale to tell. Mine is only at 69000 miles (2005 E61 535D) and has been back in the shop every 6 / 8 weeks or so for warranty work (it's there again as I write)

Let me think

Feb 2010: New OS front Xenon headlight
Feb 2010: New rear suspension compressor
Feb 2010: New rear screen (FM aerial failure)
Mar: 2010: Runflat system problem
Mar: 2010: Glow plug failure (x 2)
May 2010: Trunk gas spring failure
May 2010: PDC sensor failure
Nov 2010: Steering coil spring cartridge replacement (noisy)
Dec 2010: Thermostat replacement (main & EGR)
Jan 2011: PDC sensor failure
Feb 2011: PDC sensor failure, trunk gas spring failure (x 2), inlet manifold replacement, fuel leak rectified, aerial diversity unit replacement, ccc unit replacement (both of the latter two in an attempt to rectify the loss of FM radio reception, not resolved as yet)

Fortunately all the above under warranty and whilst little of it may be major items, the irritation of losing the car regularly is a pain.

Will I keep it past 100000 miles based on the above? Probably not, even though the reports from others in this thread are encouraging.

Mine is 2004 530d with 104k miles - fitted a turbo at 100k and cleaned out the DPF. Old turbo variable vanes were sticking - thought about cleaning them up, but the removal job is sucha a pain that I didn't want to do it twice (a bit like decorating your hall through the letter box). Thinking of using Ecotune kit to dump the cat and dpf and let her breathe... just love the big push with the auto box and would love more. Ecotune say they have customers with much higher mileage 530's which have been running boosted and remapped for a long time. Anyone reading this have any experience of this?

As an owner of a 1996 e36 328i with 260k+ on the odometer and not much major trouble, other than suspension components, I have been wondering about this myself.

I'm in the market for a 5 series stickshift/manual with under 100k...now whether to go with a 02/03 530i, 04/05 530i, or splurge on an 04/05 545i? Just have heard so much negative stuff about the V8's, and also about the overabundance of electronics in the e60's that is starting to scare me off...

do you all think in general that e39's were more reliable than e60's?
