I use Shell V-Power in my 530i and my wife's G-35 and both cars runs great and they get good gas mileage.

I use shell exclusivley. I have struggled though between 93 and 89 AKI. I had met with the BMW NA regional rep a couple years ago and he told me that my 545i will run the best on mid-grade 89 minimum AKI ( shell only). 545i calls out for min. 91 AKI.

The rep said that the engine computer will adjust as necessary to 89 Shell fuels, however the engine had a harder time adjusting to 93 AKI. He said since Shell is a top tier that 89 AKI is the minimum and that if tested I would find that its actually 90 or even 91 AKI nominal. A perfecr match for the 545i. He then said that 93 AKI theory is the same that it is 94 or 95 and above the range.

I do tend to notice a better idle when using 89 AKI but better mileage using 93 AKI, hence the struggle between the two.

This is great. I thought I was crazy. Someone told me they are all the same but I knew I felt the difference.
