Any expert on Transmission pop up messages

Any expert on Transmission pop up messages
Yesterday, suddenly from nowhere, I got a pop up message “Trans, malfunction. Transmission passion P may not be possible. Set the parking brakes when completely stopped. Have the system checked by the nearest BMW center”
It seems like car go to “N” whenever I stopped. This POP UP comes and goes but most of the time I get this message. I took the car to the independent BMW service center and they said, the sensor inside the transmission is bad, and they have not ever seen this message since past few years. They checked with BMW and of course the cost of the part about $3400 with labor over $4000.
I was just about the arrange to sell the car in the next few months and buy a lower mileages car. (I have 104k miles)
Any suggestion or possibility if that can be temporarily fix?\Car drives fine and no problems beside when it comes to stop and I get this message.
