I'm simply curious if you substituted really good non-RF tires, would the ride and handling improve.
I drove from LA to San Diego yesterday, round trip, and I found the extra vibration from the E60 setup a bit tiring after awhile. I'm wondering if changing tires (or even just tire pressures) would make any difference.

My experience is the same as yours. However, I have road feel that satisfies me to the extent that I KNOW I am driving a BMW.
I am a fan of the run flats because my experience has been good. Any performance tire I ever had always got noiser as the wear increases. Besides, I had a catastrophe where I lost two runflats on the same side instantaneously and simultaneously (split wheels) and the E60 never swerved in a safe stop.
I like the E60 Sport tuned to tires that were tuned to it. My E39 was a great car. The E60 is better and safer in ways beyond the run flats.

I run 36 psi front and 44 psi rear, loaded or unloaded. The original pressures were lower than that, but when the 05s came out, the pressure was increased because of tire wear experiences with the 04s. I changed at that time to the higher pressures and get along OK. With the sport suspension, IMO, there is an expected trade off between handling/control and some harshness over some uneveness in highway surfaces. The Lincolns handle those irregularities with floating suspensions, but you can forget good handling and control.
