I just have to say that this car just gettiing better and better!
Yesterday my fiance and I drove a loaded 530i with her, myself and a car load of christmas presents and luggage and got an average of 31 MPG! To be honest it was 30.9 but rounded up since we were on back roads.
We started our drive from New Bern, NC and ended in Cranford, NJ or otherwise NYC for most. It was all on one tank of gas!!! What was even more unusual was the fact this was done on Continental Winter tires. I must say that the summer tires are a friggin' double the weight of the Conti's.
Anyway, just a great ride and wondering what the reason of such the perfect MPG was the reason for.

Minneapolis, MN to Madison, WI the car got 32.4 mpg on the way there (no cruise control, 78.6 mph average speed according to idrive). On the way back I got 29.6 but I'm blaming that on the fact that I averaged well over 80 mph and had a very heavy foot. 3 passengers and a dog, Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires.
**EDIT** Even more impressive is that I made it there and back with one tank of gas. The trip is roughly 275 miles each way. Yes, I was running on fumes when we got home.

I drove Las Vegas to Milwaukee, WI on Dec 13 a total of 1853 miles and averaged 34 MPG. On the total round trip of 3800 miles, I averaged 31.7. On the way back , I hit two snow storms and one rain storm.

man i wish i had that kind of gas mileage... haha
On most highway drives, I get 27-28 mpg if I'm easy on the throttle. I topped that one day driving downhill on the 80 from Reno to Sacramento and got 38 mpg since I didn't have my foot on the gas most of the way down! Going all the way uphill the other direction was another story ... 12 mpg.
I'm getting 18.9 for the life of the car (764 miles) with my 550. My 545 averaged 20.4 over the 21,000 miles I had it. That car could do 27 mpg on a long highway trip, and could do 20 around town if your granny footed it. I wasn't willing to pass on the fun.
