Exclamation Alternator seal 12-31-7-507-808

Blew my alternator seal on March 5, 2017.

Proceed w/caution on oil consumption. Unfortunately, I didn't get any warning.

Going all out!

I have 78K, bought it used 1 owner in March 2015 with 51K. I don't think the previous owner did much to the car, they barely drove it. I suspect an older couple. I've been pushin' this baby. I've replaced other parts that have just deteriorated due to age.

If you have a warranty, you better use the hell out of it before it expires! Find the sticky on this site or the other one and just bug the hell out a dealer/Indy to find the common problems whenever they are servicing it and have the warranty fix it. If you dont have a warranty.....good luck...

Did you just have the gasket replaced and oil added?

Mine was leaking like a sieve at 110,000+ and I let it leak until 120,000. Finally had it replaced as I was afraid of a blowout.

Alternator sleeve? leaking oil?

The alternator is an electrical device and is not connected to any oil.
I think you are mistaken when you say that your altenator seal was broken

Yes, you would think that, but big block BMWs do have an alternator seal, check the part number that's why I included it. Oddly enough, the seal is used for engines with and w/o oil coolers. Go figure.

Also, do an internet search and you will see many pics of the seal and associated leaks. It looks like a flat pacifier.

You learn something new everyday.

He said seal, not sleeve. Google "N62 alternator bracket" and you'll be quite surprised.
