Alternator same in 530 as in 545/550?
Does anyone know if the alternator in the 530i is the same water-cooled one that BMW has been using in the V8's for over 10 years now? I would think they would be the same but when looking at the engine photos it appears that the 530i has the old air-cooled alternator. Since the electrical needs are similar in both cars and the water-cooled alternator is quieter I assumed they would be in both. Can anyone confirm?

I'm not sure but I took a quick look at one of the oem parts websites and it looks like the alternators are rated differently. The 530 alternator was shown as 140 amps but the V8 (I used the 545 as an example) seemed to be rated at 110/170 amps. I'm not sure why there is a difference either.
