How many parts I have to remove before I can change the airfilter in my car?

Open bonnet
unclip 4 points on the air filter box

honestly, if you have trouble doing this - better leave servicing to a dealer.

Honestly, you don't have an idea how to change air filter in a diesel engine.

Markku, welcome! I'll try to help you out, just give me few minutes.

I invite you to point out the air filter in a 520d.
Sorry I couldn't make it to the meet last Saturday, but family came first.

This is a 520d LCI (but before engine upgrade)

My goodness. Taking a picture in the dark like that really shows how terribly dirty it is under the hood. I never dared to use water under the hood, for fear of shorting something out. Also never took the time to do it another way. I'm lazy I guess

I would also be interested to know how to change it. Of course it can't be very difficult, but I wouldn't just guess how to open the air intake section as it's clearly not as exposed as in the petrol engines.

Hi Anzafin,

I did .

Generally:
1. Remove engine acoustics cover.
2. Remove microfilter housing plastics.
3. Remove tension strut (Can't say for sure if this is necessary in 520d)
4. Remove the air filter housing cover.
5. Change the filter.
6. Assemble.
