cool, not sure, as there could be a whole number of reasons for keeping it closed on the 520. Just one guess is that people looking at the smaller displacement engines might prefer mpg/aerodynamics over the added brake cooling you get on a higher hp engine. Everything is minimal, but BMW make a decision based on some reason, plus, if you really wanted the ducts, you could just cut a hole...but be sure that the duct goes to the actual brake, not end right at the front.

i definitely want more MPG, but its doesnt make sense. my engine is 2.2L I6 165 HP, the 525 is 2.5L I6 184HP. i doubt that 20HP difference will need BRAKE COOLING. dont u think so?

Not sure of the logic between the different engines, but the engineers designed yours closed, so I would just leave it closed.

thats wht i was thinking. but my other thought was, Engineers also designed the car not to get any faults for a minimum of 2 years, yet you see a lot of pistons and engines malfunctioning. So i thought maybe, they forgot TO OPEN IT? by mistake?

THIS IS SOOOO CONFUSING!!!!

can someone please take a closer picture of their air duct to see how the end of the pipe loolks like?it'll only take you a min to kneel down and take a picture.

I WOULD HIGHLY APPRECIATE IT GUYS!!! THX

ok, so i got that flap to open. Had to remove my wheel and unscrew the flap.So now ive got air coming into my air duct cooling my brakes.

now the question is. Should i have done this?is this gonna affect my performance/aerodynamics/mpg?

should i close it back? im feeling some remorse

Do not worry ...with that high temperature in Lebanon you better keep it open, you'll have better aerodynamics as well with the air ducts fully open.

Is your car imported from Germany? Mine was closed too but I had them removed from the first week.

The LCI cars in the UK use active aerodynamics as part of Efficient Dynamics which is all designed to save fuel/energy. Active aerodynamics also includes brake cooling flaps that stay closed when cruising and open when required for brake cooling. So if you guys want to save fuel leave them closed if your not bothered open them, I would assume if they are blanked of then your brakes probably dont get hot enough under normal conditions to ever warrant cooling.
