You can easily pop them out and then take a look at how they work. When I got mine out I am not sure if I noticed any way you can pivot them.

Just pull them out gently!

What is there to open? Are you saying there isn't any duct that allows air to flow towards the brake?

(On my car, the ducts are present...)

I think he wants to pivot open the vertical plastic part resembling a flap. By default they have an angle in the opening but I am not sure if they can be pivoted to allow more air in.

It depends on the models in the USA the 535i, and 550's have them the 528's don't. I suspect that the 520's don't unless it is part of the sport package. The ducts come with the larger breaks that are standard on the 535i's and 550's
New ducts are needed with the Mtech sport bumpers on the LCI's.

They are closed for a reason. If the full plumbing to the brakes isnt there, you are probably doing more aerodynamic damage than increasing brake cooling.

thats wht i thought in the begining. But then i saw that the plastic square has cutting edges and that it can rotate.im definitely sure they can be opened i just dont know how. i think its the contrary, if they are opened,i get BETTER AERODYNAMIC since the wind is not getting blocked, slowing the car down.
