Strange thing happened. The stock Air Box literally melted.

I noticed that the engine was very hot so was the coolant. The Air Box probably doesn't get the cool air into the engine.

I have no clue what could it be and anxious to take it to the shop on Monday. Luckily I have warranty.

Few things crossed my mind : i recently adjusted climate control settings in idrive to heat (red). Also, few month ago I removed charcoal filter from the Air Box. And, right before i found this happening, my wife drove the car (may be she drove in a low gear od with the brake on i don't know)

Did anything like this happened to anyone? What could it be?

Wouldn't have happened if you used an aFe intake. Sorry bad joke couldn't help it.

That is some craziness though, never seen that ever on any car. Keep us updated!

Do you or could you take another pic zoomed out a bit? Is the melted area toward the back side/firewall?

EDIT: Is the red circled area where the air box is melted??

wow very unusual and never seen anything like it!

my guess is that there might of been some type of fluid/chemical on that part of the cover (inside or out) that may have reacted to the extreme heat in the engine bay causing it to melt the plastic. just my 0.02

i definitely wanna know what happened. keep us updated. good luck

could you explain what that mean? Do I need to replace a muffler bearing?

And, i am in Cali. It is cold now but not freezing. Doesn't go below 0 degrees C..
