As someone in the "over 40" crowd that has been able to take full advantage of American capitalism (something that I'm quite proud of), I wonder whether those of you who are 25 and younger have had help buying/leasing your cars or whether you are simply more successful than I was at that age. At 25, I was driving a Subaru hatchback!
btw, I'm not inferring any offense and I don't mean to pry into anyone's personal situation. I'm just curious.

These polls show, among other things, how much more affordable cars are in the US.
If you did this just for Australia (and many Euro countries I guess) the average age group would be much older because a 525i starts at about US$95k on the road here and the 550i runs about US$185k (M5 is about US$240k). The average adult male wage is about US$60k per annum.
Not too many young guys can afford that sort of money for a car.

I'm 25 and since I was 16 I have had the same crappy 1995 Nissan Sentra (now thats all through high school, college and law school). I compensated my lust for cars by working at the local BMW dealership (yes I was the lot rat responsible for doing a crappy job washing your car, BUT NOT for scratching it). Now that I am out of school and practicing law, I finally am able to relish in the car I loved most (5 series). Quite the dream come true.
