Wow, if you had this much trouble getting the hang of an i-Drive, I can just imagine the horror you experience using a computer! You must hate that thing!

hah ... the MB is out of the running ... i've decided NO mb for me ... yes, they have been having lots of issues over the last 2-3 years now .... dads Sl500 went in for the SBC recall 2 times, AFTER the SBC actually failed & he nearly wrecked.

I too liked the iDrive in my car quite well - UNTIL week 2 of owning the car, whent he dealer updated the software to install my phone (cradle). everything from there on went downhill. I don't quite understand the reason for the iDrive bashings that come from the NON-owners either ... i believe i have quite a reasonable....cause for bitching about it, but unless you have the issues i'm curently having, i don't believe the idrive is bad.

Sorry to hear of your frustration.

Prior to purchasing, I had major hesitation about buying a new BMW because of all the negative articles about iDrive. When I took delivery of the car the sales associate spent almost 2 hours showing me how the iDrive system works. I have had a few minor glitches (many are pilot error) but for the most part I really like it.

I would prefer that the vent settings not be in the iDrive or that there be an automatic setting for vents when the sunroof is open. I have not yet had a software change and hope I don't run into these problems.

really sorry to hear that you have the give up a 545i b/c of idrive.
i hope your next car has simpler controls that even a blind man can navigate with ease.

i guess its all each to his own, i learned of an aquaintance from work who's divorcing his drop dead gorgeous wife, because he cannot deal with the attention her beauty attracts. he married an older woman who cleans his office a year later and now lives happily ever after.

After 3 weeks my wife says, "I love this (Idrive), it so easy to use".
I brought the car over to my parents, was showing it to my father and within 1 minute he had already programmed talk radio on the AM buttons (no real loss for me). I know it is only 2 people but these two people struggle with everything computer related and they like it.

I hope people reading this post don't get discouraged with iDrive. My wife won't buy another car without it.

Love the iDrive!

Mostly however I bypass it with voice commands. Gotta love the voice commands!

If you hate I-Drive, slip into a GM car sometime.

72 buttons, different colored lights and and toggle switches; and even several seperate toggle switches to check to see if your primary toggle switches are working.
