Glad you didn't start the car and that you seem to be okay. The good news is that in the future, BMW has your back...
Yeah I'm glad i never started it, that could have been really bad. I have purchased a misfueling prevention device which i intend to install as soon as it arrives, i have posted the link for anyone who is interested. I will post my findings once i have it installed.

hmm this sounds interesting. I wonder if I ought to try it. A cup of petrol for my tank of diesel you say. Like in a cup used for baking or a tea cup?

cheers
On my Alfa i used a tea cup.
On my Bimmer i just use Diesel cleaner (small flasks that you can purchase at the gasstation) which should clean out the system.

@Iceman:
That's partly true, but a tea cup of petrol contains about the same stuff as a flask of Diesel cleaner. Also, because it get's mixed in there, there will still be lot's and lot's of Diesel left to lubricate the system.
It's the same difference between normal diesel and stuff like BP Ultimate, so your engine (or fuel system for that matter) won't feel ANYTHING.
(Don't go adding gallons of the stuff, but a cup will not hurt your system in ANY way)

If you buy your gas at the major stations you dfinately don't need to do it.
They add what you really need to their gas/diesel.
And in winter times the additives are different than in the summer time.
