advice on CD player needed

Hi guys,
My OEM CD player has died. FYI this is the normal cd player meaning no cd changer and that stuff. I asked the local bmw store how much is a replace ment and they replied with... 1200 euros without VAT added. My question is are there any alternatives that can replace the cd player. I want to remove the cd player and add anything else in that slot that utilises an IPOD adapter or usb interface for that matter.
