Hello all,
I have a 2004 545i that originated in Japan (long story) and I am trying to get everything up and running correctly in Australia. If anyone can run my vin to see what options it has my vin is WBANB32090B360688

I have taken the car to BMW and had the idrive reprogrammed (which for the most part has worked, fixed the tv and gave it a nice update) but several items are still not sorted. Firstly no FM channels work, as I am told the hardware apparently is only good for Japan (frequencies too low). Does anyone have any info on this, and/or know the required parts to get this working?

After the reflash, mp3 compatability still has not been activated. I quizzed the dealer before I took it in for the update about mp3, and he clearly had no idea as he said basicially that was not a feature that they could simply turn on. From reading through the forums this sounded incorrect?

Housed in the left hand side of the boot within the storage compartment, is the GPS disc drive. I have noticed just under the DVD rom drive is a Flash Drive. Does anyone know what the flash drive is used for?

I also have a phone connection in the centre armrest (well a plug anyway), is this for the BMW phone(there is no phone in there)? I take it that it could be converted with another plug to use with another phone?

Sorry for the questions. I greatly appreciate any help that you can provide.
Graeme

Hi Graeme, answers in blue.

The radio will be something like 76-90mhz and the only proper workaround is to change the whole CCC unit to AU specOr you may want to investigate if a frequency converter will solve the problem because Japan?s FM radio frequency range is different from Australia?s (and most other countries as well). In Japan the frequency range is 76 - 90 MHz while ? for example ? in Australia it?s 88 ? 108 MHz.

After the reflash, mp3 compatability still has not been activated. I quizzed the dealer before I took it in for the update about mp3, and he clearly had no idea as he said basicially that was not a feature that they could simply turn on. From reading through the forums this sounded incorrect?

MP3 does not work with jap spec ccc despite upgrading the software to the latest version. You will need to change the CCC to AU spec to play MP3 on the cd player.

Housed in the left hand side of the boot within the storage compartment, is the GPS disc drive. I have noticed just under the DVD rom drive is a Flash Drive. Does anyone know what the flash drive is used for?

Your guess is as good as mine.

I also have a phone connection in the centre armrest (well a plug anyway), is this for the BMW phone(there is no phone in there)? I take it that it could be converted with another plug to use with another phone?

It's most likely there was a BMW phone there but The BMW phone that was there is only for Japanese phone. I'm not sure if it will work if you install an AU spec phone because of your existing CCC conflicts.

Regards,

Stavros

Thank you Stavros,

So changing out the CCC should solve all issues really? Any ideas on price?
Thanks again.

Also, how complicated is swapping the CCC over? Does anyone have experience using one from another country in their car?
Thanks again!

Graeme, since you have the pro-nav with the tv, you can learn more about your car's CCC here. You can use the search feature of this forum by typing in Key words. I am not sure how complicated it is or the cost of replacement, is there a BMW dealer or specialist in your area you can consult with? Good luck, hope you get it sorted.

Regards,

Stavros

Out of curiosity, are you Greek Stavros? My Greek friend's middle name is Stavros and I think he told me it means "Cross" or something along those lines.

Well I guess you could say it would be no coincidence if I am of Greek decent, especially living in the 3rd largest Greek populated city.

Thank you for providing all of that info/links to info Stavros.

I have spoken with BMW, who are contacting BMW Australia to see if it is possible to swap the CCC to an Australian spec and have the car still run correctly.

I would think it is logical for an Aus spec system to all plug in and work with a reflash of the software, but time will tell I guess. So at this stage I have AM radio, CD, CD stacker, MD (I do not use) and TV, no nav and no FM.

Does anyone know if I can swap the CCC over, if it needs to be Aus specific? The question I guess that I am really asking is, did BMW make 500 different versions of the CCC (say one for each country), or somethign like 3, and then they were used in the different regions? I hope everyone understands that last part. If there were only a few versions made I could pick up something off ebay, well that is the thought.

Thanks again, any help is appreciated.

There may be a possibility that swapping your Jap spec will disable your tv function. You may want to check that.
