I thought when its in auto recirc mode it isnt able to pick out "smells" it only picks up heavy contaminations in the air and then goes into recirc mode.

Most "smells" are created by contaminated air. Usually you don't just have a "smell". It's usually some kind of contamination/polution.

Thats true.. but how sensitive is it? does it only pick up contamination from exhausts or can it pick up cow poop too?

It picks up polution. Cow poop is not in the air, only it's smell... where I live...

Honestly, I don't know. Haven't been driving in an area where I could test it.

I have the problem both in "auto-recirculation" and "recirculation".
I am a little sensitive to smells and, as i mentioned earlier, i never had this problem in my previous, way-cheaper car...
I wanted to know if any of you had experienced this issue so i can have a hard conversation with my dealer...

You will still smell the exhaust or whatever when in auto mode. The manual states so too. It detects pollutant and not smell.

However, in recirculation mode, you are not supposed to get the outside smell. Something is definitely wrong. Like Iceman, I had it with my previous car (other continental brand) after the agent changed the filter. The flap couldn't close properly.
