I got the active steering fault a couple of days ago. The manual said to turn the wheel all the way to the left then back to neutral and re-start the car. That cleared it for me.

Mine is a 03 e60 530, I did check my user manual but it didn't said it can be reset... ... maybe mine don't have this function!
