One way to tell is if the active steering still function normally, meaning no change in steering behavior, it is most likely a false alarm. I am pretty sure it's not a major problem. All the best.

Mine started this about ten days ago. I have an appointment tomorrow to take mine in. The active steering definitely stops working with the steering going to an apparent fixed ratio...having to turn more than normal at slow speed. The feel is still the same. Sometimes, like if I have my wheel turned when the warning comes on, the wheel will line up wrong. In other words, while driving straight the wheel is turned toward say 10 o'clock.
I do miss active steering when it is not working.

I've had several fault messages, but none in active steering. None of the fault messages has ever proven to be a true fault. Some are slower to go away than others. I used to get that DSC fault a lot with the topsy vehicle in HUD for absolutlely no apparent reason (usually driving like and old man when it occurred ). It always corrected itself and dealer could not find anything when I finally showed up for service. Gas cap was another that was slow to cure itself, but finally did.

I had the same problem with my new car and it was diagnosed as computer glitch. Dealer reset the software and everything back to normal.
