Default Active steering fault

Hi All
I'm having strange Active steering Fault IF off the key than on again.

If off the the key off than on again after few minutes that's will be fine & without any active steering fault message. My concern is IF really steering sensor or others having problem, active steering message will appear continuously.

As on yesterday at parking area suddenly my car wont start & no crank at all with
Active steering fault/ABS & Transmission fault. I turn off the key than after few minutes start again than run fine. I'm really confused with this symptom

Hope can get advice on this issue

Hi

Old/defect battery , common failuer when the battery is worn out , change the battery and your problem will be solved

Go for a AGM battery , have a longer lifespan and cost only a few dollars extra , remember to get the battery registred and coded after changeing.

Kind Regards

I doubt it is the battery as batteries don't magically recharge themselves in a few minutes.

The symptoms of the active steering and transmission control fault lights sounds more like the voltage regulator on your alternator that is beginning to go bad. When mine went bad I would get all the lights on the dash, turn the engine off and start it again and they would all be gone.

If it is the VR it will get progressively worse. I would start to monitor it either with a digital multimeter under the hood when it acts up or with a voltmeter you can plug into the cigarette lighter socket inside the car.

My voltage regulator was allowing the alternator to really pour on the current, so that the system voltage was hitting 17V, which is enough to quickly fry computer modules.

Tend to it soon.

Hello,

FYI, 12 months ago I had the same problem for about 3 days ... then my active steering packed it in altogether. It turned out to be my old battery had taken out my alternator. New battery and new alternator solved the problem. BMW told me to replace the battery every 5 years because when the battery is about to go the alternator will be working hard. In my case it was working too hard.

I strongly recommend a new battery AND have your alternator load tested.

I'm havering the same active steering issue and my BOSCH battery is 4 days old. The Activevsteering fault does go away after a few minutes of driving bit will come on again when taking tight turns.

I'm guessing there's a leak or the perhaps I need to add power steering fluid. Any thoughts

well, looks like i found a band aid type fix for active steering problem i encountered. I can confirm it wasnt due to a faulty battery. I did find some oil grime on the sway.bar. This is certainly not an end all solution but worked pretty quickly and i'll keep this thread updated a few weeks out.

Lucas power steering fluid stop leak. F--kn worked within 30 minutes and error light went away. First time in months i drove without the error. The recommended fluid is CHF11S, in my case with 90K its not really a concern for me to try the El Cheapo route.

If your considering using it i suggest you make sure your fluid reservoir is missing fluid and you can spot the leak..
