acceleration question

My Ride: 2006 530xi. Deep green with beige interior. 6 speed manual. Premium package.
So I have the morning off and I am here trying to get my problems solved by the experts here.
535xi automatic. When I accelerate vigorously the car is awesome. I mean really awesome.
But when I accelerate leisurely the car seems to "hesitate". It seems to do the 1-2 shift when I move about 10 feet. Never had a 6 speed auto before. Is this normal.
