Recently I've noticed that the car takes a few minutes for cold air to actually blow. In the meantime it blows hot air and is almost unbearable sometimes with 100+ degree heat in south Texas. Any idea what could be causing the AC to blow hot air off the bat? Its really frustrating, and almost have to go a few minutes without the AC on and windows down because its so freaking hot.

This has been brought up several times on every board I read. My car does it too but not all the time. Haven't seen anybody come up with a why it happens or a remedy yet.

I was reading on another forum that it may be a compressor problem, or perhaps the condensor. I saw this thread in the DIY.

https://5series.net/forums/topic/436...-ac-condenser/

Or perhaps freon but I have no idea how to add it.

hi guys, i was under the assumption that the delay is because the car is waiting for the temp to drop before blowing out the cool air.
Similar to the heating....

Well thats my thoughts..

Hey Phil there are a bunch of DIY's for recharging the AC, here's one: http://autorepair.about.com/od/regul...C-recharge.htm

I need to top mine off also, my AC works but needs a boost. Its been hot up here also, when I got in my car after getting off work yesterday, the temp was 108 F!

I noticed the same thing in my car and I HATE IT!!!! I start my car with the AC on auto set at 64 degrees and it is blowing hot air out for minutes. I sometimes have to put it on MAX so it blows out cold air...I guess im going back to the dealer...

My car does the same thing. It takes about 7-10 minutes to cool off. Once it cools down, the ac will run just fine. I read another thread on this and starting with the simplest and cheapest, I picked up some refrigerant today. Hopefully it's just low. I'm also going to give the condenser a look over and see if there's any obvious holes.

So I checked last night and found I'm not low on refrigerant. But I just found that when I turn on the AC the fan behind the radiator doesn't come on. Going to start looking at that.
