They would have to show me that 'damaged' condenser......I'm not buying that diagnosis at all.
For one thing, the area between the condenser and the grill/bumper is sealed from underneath so IF a pebble did cause that damage it's trapped, it will still be there.....so let them show it to you.

went to the dealership yesterday, and saw a very small crack on the compressor, i wasn't sure how that could have impacted the AC. the insurance adjuster was already there and approved the charges so i'm not as concerned as i would be if i had to pay the $1100.

i can't understand how a rock some how managed to crack the unit without me ever hearing

they start work today / Monday and hopefully i'll have the car back Monday evening

So do you feel comfortable saying it was not a faulty part or poor build quality?

Mine does the same thing...

I picked up a tip from one of the members here who said to turn off the auto and the recirculate until it starts blowing cold. That seems to have helped. I find it odd that the Auto setting could be jacked-up like that. I really don't think I have a damaged part, but just a poor design or a poor computer programmer can't write code very well.

Who knows...

well i got the car last night, and seems like replacing the AC did the trick. even the guy who rang me out (not service since i picked it up late) was amazed that a brand new car was in for that type of a repair. i'm still not 100% sure that a rock caused this ordeal especially since there was no damage to the front of the car.

on the good side i got a shadow line grill installed for free

I still don't buy it, something dosen't add up........and if it happend the way they say then they should redesign the lower grill AC Blowing Hot Air??-2008_bmw_5_series_official__2_.jpg
(on the area between the fogs) so that the holes are smaller preventing rocks striking the condenser, recall the cars and retrofit them. Of course, if they can get customers (or insurance) to foot the bill they will go that rout.

Glad that your situation was sorted out though.
