hello everyone....

just need some information here...
so, when I put my car's ignition key on and turn it in to the second phase(all the electronics in the car goes on).... for a minute or two you'll see all the warning lights on the speedometer turned on and then turned off am I right?

however if I keep the ignition key on that 2nd phase I noticed the "service engine soon" light will not turned off ...
but if I start the engine the "service engine soon" light is gone....

my question is, is that means something is wrong with the engine or is that normal?

thanks....

Every car built form 1996 on does the same thing with the Service Engine Light.

The car runs an initial diagnostics test when you start the engine, everything from ignition cycle, to fuel pressure, to oxygen sensor output to charging voltage is taken into consideration. Anything that is not giving the ECU a 'thumbs up' causes the SEL to stay illuminated. The car is smart enough not to store codes when the engine is not running (most cars, E60 BIG exception) - so when you start the car the SEL turns off as long as everything is normal. Nothing is wrong with your car, the light also stays illuminated to emissions, and state inspection tests can reveal that all warning systems and lights are in place and functionally monitoring the system.
