it could just be that the trans adapted to the previous owner's driving style......and he/she probably babied it if it shifts that low.

The tranny reset should solve your problem. The real way to figure this out is to throw it in DS and see what it does. The 25 sec hold down trick does a software reset only. There is a more involved way of resetting the transmission through the dealer (don't know details, just know it requires resetting the module itself via a PROGMAN enabled feature).

If the paperwork checks out OK, this is a minor issue, Besides, you are still under warranty so don't sweat it dude..

In DS? What's That?

 

when is drive, move the shifter to the left, and that puts the car in sport mode(DS). you'll get higher shift points. if you move the shifter forward or back while in "DS" mode, then you will go to manual shift mode.

 

Hmmm...So my non-sport package car has DS?

 

i thought every automatic that bmw produces has a sport mode.

 

its does. i have a non sport 530 and have ds mode.
