I was always under the assumption that by putting 100 octane fuel, the sensors in the car go out of whack and you get a knocking noise. Not only that, performance is also lost. Back in the evo days, running 100 octane was ideal and it didn't matter when you do it. But on e60, running 91 than 100 and back to 91 would cause something to go wrong or could just be a wives tale. Should I email mythbusters?
When I use 100 octane it's a mixture of 100/91 octane. This mixture equal 95.5 octane. The car runs bad a$$ on that. However, if you do run only 100 octane like heezy545i a while back, it will negatively affect the performance.

I only use Chevron or Shell.... but I honestly don't know if there is really so much difference. I think the whole "Techron" thing is just marketing hype.

Whatever you do, just don't buy Citgo. Venezuela owns Citgo, so some of the money goes to that septic douchebag Hugo Chavez.

In many areas Citgo and philips have octane 90 as midgrade at less price than premium(93) ?
whether the gas comes from anywhere our local people runs them
Name brand as stations gas is expensive because of their ads, surcharges, political connections-contributions-lobbying and so
on.....

octane 90 is very close to the recommended premium 91, saves money, dealers and service say it should be OK

Techron isn't hype imo. I was experimenting with gases a year ago and I got the best mileage out of Chevron. My car also ran a lot better and crisp. Shell was secon and mobil stunk. Texco was really good though.

I also add the techron additive every 5k miles. Everytime I add that, my average mpg goes 4-5mpg more. I am a true believe in Chevron and so is all my friends with nice cars.

However, just for brute performance, I heard 76 is the best. (I'm going to mess with 95.5 mixture.

I wish that 100 octane wasn't so expensive. If it were like $5/gallon, I'd mix it with 91 octane on every other fillup.

Thanks for the tip, Mike.
I'll give it a shot. Both wife and I will apply for 2 cards. After a couple of months, I'll call customer service for removing that restriction. Sound like a plan.
I don't like Shell gas as much as Chevron. Once I have the card, I'll go with Chevron all the way.
Or get a citibank card.
my diamond reward gives me 5 points and I rack up points really quick. I now have over 70k points in like 1.5 yrs. Sure it's not cash back, but you can get gift cards like from home depot, macys, toysrus, etc, so which means it worth about $700. Not sure if they still have this anymore though...

Welcome back, Fred. Misses ya! See you soon. I'm moving to San Jose temporarily.
You're in San Jose? Welcome to the City of Hit-and-Run and Bribery!
We'll see you at Greet and Meet and there won't be 100 octane up here for you to fill up

Not in San Jose yet. I'll be moving there the first weekend of March. I've already found a place that sells 100 octane and it's close to where I will be living.
