I found gasoline from 76 gas stations gives my E60 better gas mileage and smoother engine run.

Chevron is 2nd and Shell is the last, among "top tier" gas stations.

What's your experience with 76?

76 octane fuel seems really low, maybe the fuel is not combusting as hard and gives you the smoother feeling your talking about?

Never run on 76 long enough to judge, but I'd prefer Chevron to Shell. However, I must go with Shell all the way because I have 5% Shell gasoline rebate on my Shell Citicard. Why not using it while the gas price is high?
I ran on Chevron before and engine was very smooth and strong.

lol, he's not talking about 76 octane, he's talking about 76 the gas station. If he put 76 octane in he'd be screwed.

Well, 76 is cheaper than Chevron and Shell in SF. I would use it too because of the high gas prices around here, but my buddy said Shell is the official gas of BMW???? So I took the marketing gimmick and has gone with it since.....

If you use Shell, apply Shell Citicard which gives you 5% rebate every monthly bill.

I've never used 76 in my 550i, but my car seems to run best on BP with Chevron being a close second. In my neighborhood, Chevron seems to run a few cents/gallon higher that the other major brands.

I haven't used Shell in years since I pumped what I thought was high test into my Audi A6 4.2 and it wound up being diesel fuel. Diesel fuel was accidently pumped into the high test storage tank by a delivery guy. My engine froze, and I didn't have the car for about 2 weeks. Never drove the same after that. Shell picked up the cost (about $2,500), but I've never used their gas again.
