So why say you wish you could get it in HK?

You can.

This thread refers to good consumption from diesel.. Hence my comment about importing from Taiwan.

Import a diesel and you'll get better fuel economy. Now if you haven't any or many diesel fuel stations, keep on wishing (although that shouldn't be a problem over a 25-mile stretch).

I love to have 1, this is what I would get if I was in UK, Petro no way.
There is Diesel in every fuel station in HK, but can not use them.

im not surprised with this 750 miles, high it is but i have my car chipped! and i can usually on the M1 motorway to London and back, can get around 650 miles, and thats at around 48.3mpg, but 50.4 is that much better, i know for sure it can be done.

Rumours say theres a 4 cyclinder 520d coming later this year, that woulod be a excellent buy here in Europe and UK.

Looking forward to it.

Not with you here, your car is already a 4 cylinder? Do you mean the uprated 2.0d engine in the 5? If so, that has just been released.

Thats an astonishing mpg, and 750 is very good, i bet you wanted to put your foot down, but you JUST couldnt.

What is a 520d currently, is it a 4 cyclinder? and what is the new 520d, is this also a 4 cyclinder with more power?

I remember from my E36 Days, that BMWs 2.0 litre was a six cyclinder like the E36 320i oN A M PLATE 94, petrol though.

I'm not sure I'd rely on the dash display. I've just come back from a holiday in Europe, driving a total of 1200 miles (Rotterdam/Hamburg/Denmark/around&about) in my 2004 530d. 2.5 fillups and I reset the fuel consumption display at the start. By the end of the trip the dash was showing average mpg of 44mpg. However when I got home and entered the fuel/mileage on a spreadsheet (yes, I am that nerdy ), it came back with 39mpg. This is consistent with the 8000 miles I've done so far in ownership - spreadsheet calc is consistently worse than on screen display.

BTW, the point about adding a turbocharger meaning worse fuel consumption isn't quite correct - if you just add a light-pressure turbo, for example, you should expect better fuel consumption due to significantly improved volumetric efficiency (as, eg, VW are starting to do in some small cars these days). However, it's when you start doing things to the engine to stop it blowing up is when you lose efficiency again. By that I mean reducing compression ratio to reduce temperature, and especially over-fuelling the engine at high revs in order to cool the cylinders.

Fun times in Germany - managed to hit 140mph on a derestricted (and pretty empty) bit of Autobahn. Just wanted to see what it was like really (very stable, amazing really). Generally cruising at around 100mph, which was pretty much keeping up with traffic over there. Why can't the UK be so enlightened?

All figures above in UK gallons.

Andrew
