Rislar, it's a petrol but you were right. The engine mount is shot. Dealer is picking it up today. The must had some muppet engineers on the previous delaership not to spot it. Or they didn't even bother ..

It recently started when i felt the gearstick vibrating (or pulsating more accurately) while on the highway. After abit of experimeting i can see the following

a)The vibration is more evident in neutral, 2nd and 4
b) It's gets the strongest on 2250rpm and 2750rpm
c) It reduces past 3K and higher
d) It gets worse if accelerate, if i let the gas off it subsides.
e) After 2 minutes of holding the gearstick (not pressing, from the sides) my hand got num
f) On neutral, i can even feel the vibration through the seat and on my back

Stated all that to the dealer and he said cannot see anything..

I say bull ...

I'm changing dealer now. Any ideas to what might be wrong ? That way i'll have to say something to them ..

Thanks for the help
I have the same issue on my 2004 545. between 60-70 mph I get a vibration through the whole car. had new tires and rims installed and the vibration is still there. I am thinking it is the motor mount as well. Did the new motor mounts solve your vibration issue?

sorry, posted reply incorrectly. I have the same problem with my 2004 545. I get a vibration in neutral just off idle speed and then while driving between 60-70 mph. If I let off the gas, it goes away and if I accelerate above 70 it goes away. I was just wondering if the new motor mounts solved the issue

Yes it did, at least 80% of it. But do read my original post more carefully my problem was not speed related was rev related and not on idle speed.

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

I agree with Rislar, check the lower motor mounts for cracks and check the rubber in them for cracks. There should also be some bushing for the shifter, these could be dry rotted and may need replacing.

If all else fails, just jack your car up and look under it and see if anything is out of the ordinary.
