6spd Manual Owners a little help please..

It recently started when i felt the gearstick vibrating (or pulsating more accurately) while on the highway. After abit of experimeting i can see the following

a)The vibration is more evident in neutral, 2nd and 4
b) It's gets the strongest on 2250rpm and 2750rpm
c) It reduces past 3K and higher
d) It gets worse if accelerate, if i let the gas off it subsides.
e) After 2 minutes of holding the gearstick (not pressing, from the sides) my hand got num
f) On neutral, i can even feel the vibration through the seat and on my back

Stated all that to the dealer and he said cannot see anything..

I say bull ...

I'm changing dealer now. Any ideas to what might be wrong ? That way i'll have to say something to them ..

Now thats a tough one!! it cant be any of your drive train as its doing it in Neutral, so that eliminates wheel bearings, drive shaft, diff etc, have you lifted the bonnet whilst in neutral with the engine running, ive a feeling its is a bottom engine mount, take a look and let me know bud!!

Hmm, that's not a bad idea, at all.. Not wheel bearings for sure , the car is stationary on neutral (as you probably imagined).
I'll take a look, definately!

By the way, didn't you have a different avatar ?

Im an ex grease monkey so ive a little bit of knowledge, its been a while to be honest but i do all of my own cars, anyway thats another story!!! its a process of elimination bud, start there then look at the exhaust manifold also, but will talk about that when you get back!!

Yep different avatar, i usually change them every couple of days or weeks, its just something i do to keep myself entertained

Engine mounts would transfer vibrations not only to the "stick" though... still, a good place to start looking for the root of the problem.

I'd also look at transmission mounts. Could it possibly be ground gears? Just based on what you're saying (vibrates in 2nd and 4th gears and at certain rpms - where the peak torque starts, basically), for some reason I'm thinking gears... but I'm by far not a pro on this - really, I'm just throwing this out there so that someone who knows better can say its definitely not this...

There is one simple fix if you want to try that first. Under the leather gaiter you will see a vibration damper screwed on to the gearshift. Loose the screw and move that upwards. The higher to take it the less vibration you will get but too high and the screw will get in the way of the gaiter. Hope that helps.

Funny enough, today is abit colder and i couldn't get to vibrate for at least 20 min. I've hard revved the engine abit (5k) and then it appeared again.
Still not as evident on any gear as before, BUT as strong as before on neutral.

Either way will have a look on the engine mounts and report back

Can we establish one thing: is your car out of warranty?

Bruce's fix is DEFINITELY worth the shot - it is VERY possible he's got the remedy for your issue.

only the diesel cars get that damper.
