This reset did not work. I tried it several times with key in position 1 and position 2. No cigar. Thanks for the recommendation Btlejuice. I still haven't tried Bruce's suggestion with the battery, haven't had time to hook up with a friend to help. I will repost after I have tried this. Thanks again for the suggestions.
I had the same problem in my 545. I kept hitting eject while moving the cartridge up and down, side to side (not hard of course) and finally got it to eject. After I got it open I took out the plastic cd holders and carefully put them back in correctly. I think thats what jammed it the first time, hastily putting one back in and having it off track a little. Hope it helps.

Got it out! Diver1, I did what you did... held in the eject button while pushing cartridge up/down, left/right and it came out easier than I expected. After I got it out I could not see any mal-alignment with cds or plastic holders. I carefully put it back in and could hear the changer cycling through the cds but could not get them to play. The cartridge immediately ejected when I pushed the eject button. I will let the car sleep over night and try again tomorrow.

i know... take out the cd-changer and put in an iPod interface
I recall a trick on my E36 cd changer. It involved opening the door of the cd changer and using a credit card or driver's license to release the magazine holding the cds. This is inside the cd changer between the magazine and the changet. Try above below and left & right areas between the magazine and the housing
