Every single feature on the e60 has taken longer to bring out than expected. Since your claim would mean that something came out a year earlier - it is really hard to believe. Since there are people with 3/06 builds already and they don't have that it adds to the skepticism.

Don't be so sensitive. If you see a car where it works and you have pictures, we will believe you. Until then, we won't. I wouldn't believe an official BMW publication either so don't take it personally. I mean, who would of thought that Idrive in 2006 would still not control an Ipod......

Can anyone with an LCI and a six-disc changer confirm that the unit now plays MP3 discs?

Hey Knubblo, don't get too excited. MP3 is what everybody wants, but unfortunately, the E60 did not offer ipod integration nor 6 CD changer MP3 to start with. We love to believe it is offered since most of us would like the retrofit. No more, no less.
"Nevermind" just confirms that at least his recently produced car does not support your statement, quite logical that this adds to scepticism -

Yeah, don't take it personally Knubblo. The default scientific posture should be skepticism - and we have a lot of scientifically-minded folk here.

I too would be very eager to learn if the new CD changer supports MP3s. I'd probably opt for a changer retrofit vs. iPod integration since my iPod is Gen 2 (firewire).

I'm looking for confirmation so I can decide whether to move my current changer to the new car or have them install the newer (updated) one.

UUronL, are you saying that the newer generation iPods won't work with the LCI iPod integration option?

Hahaha. No. I have a gen 2 iPod (not gen 2 changer). It -only- has a firewire port, and no dock connector. Gen1 and Gen2 were firewire 400, Gen3 to present is USB dock.

Thanks UU. So I guess BMW is already behind in the iPod integration interface?

Knubblo, the reason the skepticism here shouldn't be taken personally. Due to the complex nature of the E60, over the last three years there's been plenty of misinformation posted here. (The complex nature of the car is probably why this board thrives!) Whatever BMW's literature says is never to be taken as fact until someone with an actual car can verify that things work as expected. Also, even if it works for one person, it may not work for another. This is usually due to things like nav or no nav, country, build date, etc. The only way we can get to the bottom of what works and what doesn't work is to remain skeptical and gather more data from actual owners.

I just ran out to my LCI March 07 Build and took the mp3 CD that was playing in dash, placed it in slot 1 of the CD Changer and Hey Presto the sound of silence, unless there is a different method of burning CD's which would apply to the changer (this i very much doubt) or maybe it has to be fully loaded with MP3 CD's (again i doubt) then it would appear that the latest changer does not support MP3, having said all that without riping my dash apart i cant confirm make and model number on my CD Changer.

Happily my single player does the trick with MP3's and i have a 4gb stick that slots into the USB port to provide me days of listening pleasure.

Thanks for the update. It seems as if they haven't updated the changer to allow MP3 disc playback. At this point, you're probably right in that it would be simpler to just get a big USB stick (or two) and use that if you don't have an iPod.

I think I'll simply have the dealer move my CD changer over to the new car -- as long as the old one is compatible with the new car, that is.

Anyone with an even newer build 4/07 or 5/07 care to test things out?
