Like to see some confirmation from a 03/2006 E60 owner with 6disc - For me, non MP3 was the reason not to order it. So I didn't ! Having thought it all through, think the ipod is a cheaper and better alternative, and not getting the id3 tags on screen is not an issue, have to keep the eyes on the road anyway

Yes, March 2006. I did not order a changer for my car since the changer did not support mp3 at the time of order. I called BMW some months ago asking if the changer supported mp3 nowadays, unfortunately he replied no. But he also mentioned that it was planned to upgrade the changer to mp3 within 2006.

Two days ago I got a leaflet from BMW asking me to participate in their spring event (for customers, not retailers). The event was targeted at the new owners since the leaflet mentioned all the different things that could be retrofitted. On one page they listed the 6 CD changer and the text (specs) below it clearly mentioned mp3 functionality. This means that if I order a changer today it will support mp3. Since the leaflet take some time to produce and distribute I figured that the mp3 compatible changer must have been available at least one month prior the distribution of the leaflet, i.e. March 2006.

Ciao!

The official BMW UK MP3 compatability matrix released in March 2006 says the E60 does not yet have MP3 capability in the CD changer

Previous US charts said it wont be here till march 2007

Here is the officia; BMW USA one released September 2005

My first posting on the forum - I'm not sure if this helps or confuses the situation further - I've just taken delivery of an e60 (535d) here in the UK on 31st March (built during March 06.) The manual (yes I've actually read the manual strange person that I am - by the way it's a 2006 manual!) states under the section CD Player and CD changer (p171) quote "CD's with compressed audio files, MP3, can be played back by the CD changer but not the CD changer" - I''ve not owned a 5 series for several years (last car was an M therefore I'm not sure if this situation was known prior, if so ignore my ramblings - I've not tried any MP3 CD's to-date so I can not confirm, however the statment quoted would suggest the situation is not as clear as it may be from comment made here - perhaps there is a plan to upgrade the CD changer - as usual the dealers will be the last to know in my experience!

My car, which started production on 10th March 2006, can play MP3s in the dash CD slot and dash DVD slot. The 6CD Autochanger will not play MP3s.

Why is the default setting of E60.net users that almost everything said in this forum is incorrect or not truthful? Why would I submit a thread saying the changer support mp3 if it didn't? And why would any document issued in sept 2005 (more than 6 months ago) be more accurate than my info which is 30 days old? Just adding a bit more proof (yes, seeing is believing) I chose to submit two pictures from the leaflet distributed by BMW. It CLEARLY states that the changer now supports MP3. Enough said, and finally, don't spam the messanger...

Hey Knubblo, don't get too excited. MP3 is what everybody wants, but unfortunately, the E60 did not offer ipod integration nor 6 CD changer MP3 to start with. We love to believe it is offered since most of us would like the retrofit. No more, no less.
"Nevermind" just confirms that at least his recently produced car does not support your statement, quite logical that this adds to scepticism -
