M5 without a doubt. It's not the most practical, but if you can afford the constant fill-ups and the additional costs that go along with owning one, it's well worth it. Nothing beats the M5!

It seems the new 550i is closing the gap against the M5 in many ways. Of course it's NOT an M5 by any stretch, in terms of straightline acceleration, handling, etc. I certainly know that.

My question is: how much of a difference is there? My wife is about to get a new 550i, and I wanted her to get a 1 year old M5 with 5k miles for the same price.
CATTMAN

Get the M5! The M5 is freakin CRAZY! If you can get a M5 for the same price as a brand new 550i get it

I can take 4 other people in my M5 comfortably to dinner and still keep up with a Lambo (kind of... ). The M5 is more practical.

so true, i spent the past 3 1/2 years in my 645ci and now have the M6beast...even though everything sort of looks the same, they are night and day in every way, and I would never thought it possible....this is the same way M redesigned 5 to make the M5, everything looks the same until you get behind the wheel...then its like its a completely different model with no comparisons except for angles and sight lines...the M5 and M6 are racecars that appear as streetcars, plain and simple, if you have the choice and you want a race car that looks like a sports sedan, get the M5, if you want great power and luxury, but do not want to drive a race car every day, then get the 550, both are great for their respective purposes
This is so true. They are similar yet totally different cars. The feel behind the wheel is completely different as you can sense the power pulsating through your body. And the look you get from passerby....even my fully modded 545 didn't command that much attention.

That said, if it's for your wife and she's not into a raw drivers car, the 550 might be best suited for her.

M5 of course, 550i doesn't compare. You would probably enjoy driving the M5 more if you have one on the side, but it might be too much power if your wife is going to be driving it daily so a 550i would be better for her, it's all up to you.

*sigh*... I wish I could get an M5 though. a nice used one would be great... Come to think of it... it is obtainable... only problem is insurance will probably be a killer. and Gas.. considering it would be my only car and I would drive it everywhere.

500HP, V10.. Man.. I would love it. I'm so jealous of u guys.. Tony and Calton.
