Hello!

I'm in the process of buying an E60! I've had many BMW's in the past and I really want another V8 powered 5 (I've had 2 540i/6's)! I've owned each generation of the 5 except the E60. Anyway I'm trying to decide if paying a little more for an early 550i/6 speed is really worth it compared to a 545i/6 speed. I checked the faq's and tried searching but couldn't find much.

What are the differences (other than 35 bhp)? Do you think it's justifiable to get the early 550 over the 545? My criteria is basically a 6 speed, 60k miles or less and probably nav.
Love my 550i

my bro has a 550 and compared to my 545(both have the sports pkg).. I like my engine better, but like his seats and steering wheel. The 550 engine does not feel as eager to please and not as free revving. An important factor are the seats. The sport seats(545) don't fit everyone and don't get me started on the head rests!. The comfort seats are better. Now my pet peeve is the steering wheel..definitely too thin in the 545(triangle air bag models). It feels worse after you sit in a new 550 (round air bag) or even a new 650 or m3...I love those thick steering wheels!

Test drive both...you can get great deals n 545 and good deals on 550's...also keep in mind the new model is coming next year
(prices should fall further). Both are great cars!

I own and love my 545 , but I believe that you wouldn't see much difference between them , but if you get the 550 lci with the sport package, and those nice tailights that i love much , you will notice the difference. I must say too , that you will peace of mind with newer car with warrant.

Have never owned nor driven a 545.
Seems to me if the difference in cost is minimal.... go with the 550.

Is getting an early model M5 out of the question? I own a 545 and I absolutely love it. Cousin drives a 550 and the difference is there... but far from noticeable. Get a brand used M5. Wish I did =). I bet the deals on them would pretty nice. Actually lookin for one now and found one in VA for 41k/ with 49000 miles.

The advantage with the '07, additionally, was the inclusion of comfort seats. The sport seats suck.
I've got comfort seats on my 2004 545i.
