My advice to you is if/when you have the time try to make an appointment at JMK BMW. Speak to Will and tell him you have the same problem Mike was having with the transmission on his 550. There service dept is among the best I have been to. They had the tech come out (Omar) and drive the car with me to feel the problem to first hand see what was going on. I described to him the symptoms and the tech pinpointed it to a problem with the shift from second to third. They gave me a 2011 535i loaner and fixed the problem the next day with the update/flash. That extended warranty is crazy they want something in excess of four grand! With the RIGHT indy shop no repair will run you four grand. I know the guys over at Motorcepts in Richmond Hill (Queens), since your in NY if you ever run out of warranty and don't opt to blow the four grand give them a call for anything. Leo (one of the owners) will go above and beyond to repair your car at a fraction of the dealer prices. He uses only OEM BMW parts so your getting the same parts/service. I have been dealing with Leo for all repairs/upgrades for years good place good people.

Did you ever find out what the real problem was? I'm on the same boat as you all. My car is at the stealership currently and am waiting for a response to this issue. Hope they give me a new tranny, mechatronic. My warranty will be up in a month FML!
