My Ride: 2010 BMW 550i m sport lci

550i slight whining at startup for a few sec?

car has a faint whine at start up for a few seconds when the car sits for a few hours then goes away it just broke 50k mi 3 days ago no more warranty

it's your belts are dying
nothing serious one date you need to replace them

Can you record it and publish on youtube? Maybe it is a secondary air pump or belt pulley.

My Ride: 2007 E60 550i Black/Sand. Dinan free flow intake, throttle body, carbon fiber strut brace, and exhaust. Carbon fiber engine cover. Blend mount for a Belltronics RD w/mirror tap. Smoke LED taillights. Projector fog-lites w/HID kit.

Spray some armorall on the belt, if it quits its the belt. If it keeps going spray WD-40 on each pulley until it stops. Easy old skool troubleshooting, best to do it on a dry, non-humid day.

im hoping its the p.s pump cause the dealer has one on order for me that was found leaking 100mi b4 my factory warranty was over

I have a small leak somewhere on mine, and it makes a noise real quick then stops like you described a faint whine.. That might be what it is tho. Belt squeaks tend to be real noticeable and annoying. Just my opinion don't anyone get to sensitive on here, lol......
