I'm just hitting 1200 miles on my 550i automatic and the MPG is still much lower than I expected it to be. The past 2 weeks I've tried driving it more conservatively, but it doesn't seem to make much difference. I'm getting an average of 11 MPG!!! It goes down to 10 MPG if I put it in DS mode. I expected it to be closer to 15. My driving is 95% city driving with an average speed of 15.5 MPH.
I've searched this forum and have found a few threads about MPGs, but nothing specific to the 550i.
I'd like to hear from some other 550i owners out there. Would be great to hear from some in Los Angeles driving the same kind of roads.
- What avg MPGs are you seeing?
- % city / % highway
- How many miles on your car?

I know the engines are different, but my 545 has averaged just over 25 for the past two months with mixed city/hwy driving.
Maybe it's just because your engine is so new. Hopefully the MPGs will increase.
Are you sure you are looking at MPG and not KmPG?
(actually, that would make it worse)

break it in a little more. if anything later on if there's no improvements and you are driving conservatively, reset the mpg on the idrive and/or record calculations manually. computer isn't always correct.

I have an 07 with 18k on the clock
I have not reset my mileage computer for around 10,000 miles. I average 85% city driving between 35 and 45 mph. The rest is highway driving at 60-70 mph. From time to time I have some fun with the go pedal. The computer was showing my mpg at 19.9 for months and it just moved to 19.7 this week. I have a 6 speed manual and there may be a diference with step.

For the last two tanks of gas, I have calculated the MPG manually. The computer is dead on.

With my 2008 550, I am now averaging 17-18 driving on Long Island, NY, and 23-24 driving weekly to Albany, NY on the NY Thruway. These numbers are consistant with my experince with my 2005 545. I now have 12,000 miles on the car. Milage was not as good during the first 5,000 miles.
