Today I noticed just how fast my 550's computer brain shifts out of first and second gear under light acceleration and how jerky it can be at times. Have any other 550i owners noticed this?

I also have noticed that my car lurches forward two to three inches after I shut off the motor and then take my foot off the brake. I am on a level surface too. This only seems to happen when I have been in drive and move it to park vs. being in reverse and moving it to park.

I've wondered if these two things were connected in some way.
I had the exact same issues with my 2006 550 and it had been updated to I think 27.x - maybe 28.x. I hated that 1-2 (possibly 2-3 not sure) shift in the morning -it was always so abrupt. Never would notice it after the car had warmed up or at the end of the day driving home. But damn that had to be one of the few things that REALLY annoyed the crap out of me.

The lurch at the end (putting car in park and taking foot off brake) always made me think I would hit something in my garage. I guess I got used to it because at some point it did not bother me much.

Anyway, I tried the transmission reset and all -my next step was going to be leaving the car at the dealer overnight. Alas I ended up selling it to my neighbor

That DS mode is an enigma. My wife's old Volvo V70R had a similar mode for driving in winter. I figured that the DS mode on the bmw was the same till I stumbled across a reference to DS mode on this forum after about 18k miles. After a couple of days shifting the car yourself, you will discover that no matter how good the tranny is in auto DS mode, you can still shift it better. When you get bored, just bang the shifter into d mode, and then back to ds mode and it takes over. One word of warning though, the already dismal mpg gets even worse with DS, but it is a hell of a lot of fun. And other than a Ferrari at WOT, that 550's V8 is a silky smooth sound that warms the soul, and brings out the cave man instinct in you.

I also have one other nagging thing that is not tranny or torque related... The car only has 16k on it and the front left corner creaks quite loudly when I go over a road hump at 20 mph or take a sharp left turn into my driveway from my alley way (going 1 mph). Are there issues with the struts or control arms going out prematurely on 2007 5 series?

Now while I just typed that I'd love to know about all known issues on the 07 5 series and the 550 as well, so do reply with them so I can get them sorted out while the car is still under warranty.
no worries, I've had all those issues you listed here on my brand new 09 550i from the very first day...i consider those are normal...it should be fine.

Well, that's somewhat reassuring. I ordered the SprintBooster on Tuesday of this week to solve the pedal lag. I'm hearing that an RPI/Powerchip tune will also resolve this and other minor annoying issues.
