On M5's the Mass Airflow Sensor was the most likely cause of HP loss in an otherwise "healthy" car. Do you run a K&N oiled filter or drive on dirt roads alot? That can contaminate the MAFS. How many miles are on the car?

Also on the dyno chart, did it have a "normal" HP & Torque curve or did it have peak HP much lower than the 6300 RPMs it should?
The car has the stock air filter and induction system. It has 25K miles and only drives in city areas.

Who does baseline dyno testing here in SoCal on BMWs?

Mine doesn't feel too fast either and I have 10k on mine...should I spray the MAF to clean it?

Well, I called RPI and they're saying that the average for a stock 550i is ~250. This is on their dyno and they claim to have dynoed quite a few 550i over the past year. I'm going to call them on Monday of next week to schedule a baseline run to see if mine dynos in this range and then perhaps just go ahead with the air + tune mod with an after dyno.

I'll keep you guys posted.

I have an 09 550i. I intend on going the Dinan route as well but the car only has 6000 miles thus far. I will see if
I can find a Dyno shop around me to run the car to see what Im pushing to add in. As far as quick Im extremely
happy with the car. I purchased the car while stationed in Germany and the car gave a S5 a run for its money on
the Autobahn.

That seems low. A 20% loss would be 290hp. I'd be disappointed if lower than that. The typical E39 M5 dyno was 330-340hp. The 550i is only 34 less hp.

I'm not sure what type of dyno they use or how they dyno their vehicles and I think the number is almost irrelevant because if they can show me dyno sheets of several 550s that dynoed in that range and mine dynos in that range, then I know I'm right on par with others. Does that sound reasonable?

This is strange. Here is the thread RPI dynoed a 545i and it produced 250 whp before the new exhaust was installed.

250 whp is low for the 550i if you ask me.

Thats my car that was dynoed...Eloy pulled up a couple of 550 with mods and they were actually less then mine after the exhaust....It all depends on the mods...Some mods will rob you of hp....Some times less is more....Alot of people learned this with afe intakes and magnaflow exhuast...

We have not dynoed any stock 550i. The two 550i we have dynoed, iceman316 and SocalM5Mang, were both modded with performance products (AFE CAI and custom exhaust) that drastically reduced power. We have dynoed stock 545i that average 250 rwhp on our Dyno Dynamic which reads 10% lower than Dyno Jet
