I am averaging 19.9 overall. If I get on the highway and use cruise control I can get 26 like the sticker says. The problem is it is way too much fun to get into the power. Once you touch the gas the MPG drops like a single golddigger on the make - both leave a smile on your face but there is a price to pay.

For MPG, there's too much variance between individual driving styles. What does the window sticker of the 550 say the mileage is? And please clarify if Step, Manual, or SMG. Thanks.

I haven't actually calulated at the pump, but according to the computer my in city mileage is pretty bad, worse I think than my e46M3 was. However, once on the highway cruising I think it is 25 mpg plus. Since this car is a form of entertainment I am not too concerned. But I am tempted to turn off the computer MPG rating as I hate looking down and seeing 12mpg etc. At least I am not driving an M5 whcih gets horrible mileage.

I would guess that your mileage for a 550 will not be very different than with your 545. Forget the mileage ... enjoy the extra power.
For good milage buy a VW Rabbit 1.6 or something
Ceriously, all BMW engines give good milage but a 4.8 l V8
with a 367 hp engine in a 1735 kg car does not run 0-62 m in
5,6 sec for free!

Hi I am getting 18.2 in a primarily around town driving with light freewaydriving.
On a couple of tanks I have gone to 17, due to having waayy too much fun with the accelaration!!!!
I also drove up to san francisco and got 19.1 with a lot of freeway driving... (I was also going at some points in the 90-100 mph range. )

I think the MPG gauges should be replaced with something more useful, like temp, and G-FORCE. When driving a V8, good MPG is not very promising.
