I don't really monitor milage too much, but on a recent 500+ mile trip, I set the trip computer and noted that I got 19.?. this was mostly highway miles with several city stops and cruising around those towns. About half of the trip was interstate Highway where I ran mostly in the 90's and touched triple digits. However, my average speed was only in the high 60's. The other half of the trip did have many towns where you had to slow to 45 and when at speed I ran in the 80's on that leg.
I think milage is worse than my old 540, but well worth it. I do have a heavy foot and could probably get significantly better milage with slower acceleration. But, with less fun.

BMWs MPG are great for highway drivngs specially on the big motors which uses the valvetronic to reduce consumption to the fullest. I drive 80% on the city and I'm averaging in the range of 16 to 16.5mpg. So for example I filled up yesterday and have been doing a lot of highway driving (and spirited too ) , have 1/2 a tank left, the car shows 19.5 and 175miles driven. not bad IMHO and I can say as close to my former 530I mpg.

need a refill every 180 miles or so.... :'(
I knew it wasn't going to be economical when I ordered it, but at least they could have put a proper fueltank in the car that carries you 300+ miles
(car is a full spec touring step, which doesn't help eather)

the 545 gets well over 300 on highway driving... in teh city or traffic in the free way ya... you're right... usually i get about 230 ish before i get a fill up. I'm sure it can be pushed to 250 but I rather just fill it up then.

interesting. on my 545i, I am getting about 18.5 or so, combo city/hwy. I thought I had read somewhere that the 550 engine was more economical, even though it has more power. i guess not!

I'm getting 13-14 mpg city - engine has 3,200 km (2,000 mi) on it. While I'm standing there filling the tank I'm wishing it got better mileage, then back in the driver's seat and I could care less
