Its about 90% certain it will be a 240kw Sequential turbo ( like the 535d ) petrol engine with direct injection. A number of BMW documentation on it has been seen

Wait a minute the 550i is really a 548i and the 750i is a 748i so on and so forth! 
Someone on Bimmerfest had a 540i and modified it to read 544i.
