I was just searching through the forums, moving posts around and such, and found an old thread of mine from July 2004 where I said the 545 would be replaced by the 550 ... told ya so, nearly a year ago!

http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=1936

All of us on the forums know so much more than the bmw dealers themselves, for the most part!

Don't they already? Comes with being a BMW driver. Will a different badge make any difference.

Someone on Bimmerfest had a 540i and modified it to read 544i.

The badge doesnt have much to do with the size of the engine

just look at the E46 323i and E90 323i and E60 323i theyare 2.5l
USA E90 325i is 3.0L
E39 540i is 4.4L
ect ect

The later year e39 540s were a 4.4 or a 544. I believe the old v12 750s were 5.2 litres or 752. They aren't consistent at all but it really is just an identifier not an absolute description of the vehicle.

That i know, it seems like they round off to the higher number to cater to a higher standard.

Same as the new 750 -- 360 hp, 360 lb-ft torque.
