it is important to note where you live as well. city driving in Chicago is not going to be the same as city driving around a much smaller town, so right there you will have a big difference in opinion. I had a mercury marauder which was a supercharged 4.6L 32v v8, averaging 235 miles per fillup on a 15 gallon tank. mixed driving in chicago on a 70 mile daily commute. With the BMW i am noticing an unbelievable improvement in the gas mileage. I am almost doubling my gas mileage, its basically costing me almost the same owning this car and paying for gas as it was just gas on the other car.

my wife has a 3.5 altima. basically same as a m35, maxima, and a g35/37. i own an 08 535i and i test drove the new maximas and a m35 at a local nisan dealer before i bought this car to make sure i was making the right decision. The nisan makes were nice and very comfortable however i HATED the CVT transmission. you feel completely dissconnected from the road, feels slow and sluggish. my wife's old altima before the CVT is so much more fun, but the seats are not comfortable at all for a guy my size. The BMW was a VERY good purchase so far and the gas savings are GREAT. i am averaging about 350 miles per fillup with spirited mixed driving. you CAN get 400 easy if you just relax on the pedal a little lol, hard for me to do especially in sport mode lol.

hope this helps!

I have a 2008 550I since new.I average between 26 & 27 mpg on a trip.I go on vacation twice a year to connecticut from Pa.The trip is 290 miles one way with 85 miles on rural roads and the remainder on interstates. This includes going through New Haven Ct on the city streets.I have set the computer readout for mpg in the hidden menue so that it is exactly accurate. It was 4% high with the factory setting.I think you can only judge what the mileage will be on the 528,535 & 550I by using the same driver.Drivers vary greatly on how they drive their cars.It is possible to vary by 10 mpg depending on driving habits. When my 550 was in for service i had several 328IX's for loaners.Driven the same way I drive my 550 I averaged about 21.5 mpg in my normal rural driving. This is within .2 mpg that I get with my 550 under the same circumstances. The 328I may do a little better due to rear wheel drive, but my experience has been there is very little difference between the 3 models when driven by the same driver under the same conditions. If you get bad mileage on a 550 you also will get bad mileage on a 528 or 535,the converse is also true.

Cruise control going 70 mph i get 450 miles a tank on highway. MPG is all in the drivers foot. if it is heavy so will be your monthly bill at the pump. I can empty my tank in an hour as well.

Hankook v12

every 3 months I use Lucas Oil Fuel injector cleaner. After I left Simon's house I put gas then entered the freeway. I sent this to Simon because his car gets about 500 miles per tank. I told him that the 550 can be amazing on gas as well. I sent him this picture 30 min after I left

You must be way lighter on the gas than me, or live in a flat part of California. Oh, and the 6.2mpg was not representative. I'm more of a 19mpg guy.

I usually make 500+ miles on a whole tank of exclusive highway non-stop driving. I have had that indicator show me 580 on a full tank and 280 on a full tank, so yes, it really matters how you are going to drive.

I bought my car to pass people. I unconsciously pass and speed up. Then I consciously slow down. Sitting with my foot off the pedal in cruise control is difficult. I am a polar bear's worst nightmare. Am i alone in this?

I agree with about 3-series. I had many different (as loaner) E90's 335, 328i, 328xi (coupe, sedan) so anyway, I'm getting around 18.5 to 18.8 mpg on my coummute to work and back, plus around the town in Leesburg VA (remember now is very hot weather, 90+ for last two weeks). So I was getting around 21 mpg in same route on 328I and 20 mpg on 335i. So I guess it's not much difference.
