Guys I need your help. I am looking at 5 series for my wife (2008 or newer). It's going to be a daily commute car. On a used market the cost of 528i, 538i or 550i is close enough not to worry about the price difference. 550i with M sport aero package on 172 wheels look very attractive and I personally don't like the look of standard package. Now looking from a daily commute perspective, tires for 172 wheels cost a lot and don't last long. I was shocked to read about the mileage people get with 172 rims. 535i is probably the best in terms of power vs fuel economy ratio whereas 528i is a true commute car.
Most 550i come with sports package and look fantastic. How much does it cost to install clear bra? Does it look ok? I worry about the chips and rocks given it's going to be a commute car. She mostly drives freeway with mild traffic.
I never see 535i or 528i with M sport package for sale. Only those that were in accident. I found one 528i after accident with the sports package on 172 wheels. I don't know if I should even consider car with salvage title but it's very low mileage.
How is turbo on 535i? Is it reliable?
Please help me out to make the right decision.

I dont know where you're getting your fuel ecconomy specs but with my 550i I get around 20mgp around town and 27mpg on the highway, pretty sure that's the same or better than a 528i and even a 535i. just sayin'.

Wow 27mpg sounds fantastic. Is this more or less consistent?

Get the 535i and throw on a M-tech kit for her. That way its still a V6 but still has some balls. If you dont want to mess around and money isn't an issue than 550i without a doubt. If money isn't the issue what's a couple less mpg?
