no matter how many times I select it or start and stop the car, it always plays the songs in the same random order. It never "reshuffles" them. How hard could it be to give us a better random feature? (I know, if I had an iPod it would probably work better...)

Hahaha serious!!! its not just BMW I have the same problem with the shuffle on my Lexus... it really pisses me off. and if i hit the next it just scrolls to the next song... from track 9 to track 10 not even to the next "ramdon" song... where do car manufactures get these "RANDOM" programmers?

One note about the random function -- it seems as if the "randomness" is only that once. In other words, on my 80GB hard drive full of songs, if I play them using the random function, no matter how many times I select it or start and stop the car, it always plays the songs in the same random order. It never "reshuffles" them. How hard could it be to give us a better random feature? (I know, if I had an iPod it would probably work better...)
Maybe it was just something about the Dension set up?, but sounds like the same problem with your hard drive. I ended up setting up playlists in random order in the end by sorting by file size, rather than relying on the random feature in the head unit.

I will check on the random option. Thanks Rudy.
BMW recommends 1200 miles, then gradually increase speed (when do you hit light speed? ). I have 200 miles left to go for "proper" break-in. Patience, Grasshopper.
jay545i, the wheels are OEM Style 167's.

I totally agree with you on the e39 issue. I was so happy with that classic car but I don't spend a second thinking about it now.The E60s refinemet + technology make for an incredible driver, the V8 is so smooth and powerful across the band. Can't wait to start the engine everytime I need/want to drive it.

Lou:
Your 550 looks awesome. Space grey is a great color for the 550 sport. It shows the contours of the car quite well. Congrats.

Hi Rudy, I have been using an i-pod plugged into a dension adapter for a number of years in VW's. The random feature plays tracks at random, but starangley plays the same selection of songs. For example, if I set up a play list of 200 tracks or so, it will random through the same 50 of them and then start again on the same tracks, rather than going through the whole playlist.
Maybe it was just something about the Dension set up?, but sounds like the same problem with your hard drive. I ended up setting up playlists in random order in the end by sorting by file size, rather than relying on the random feature in the head unit.
